Lorca, whose city centre was declared a historical-artistic complex in 1964, is known as the Baroque City. It is worth mentioning the Mile-stone Column, the San Antonio Arcade, the Guevara Palace y the Spain Square. All of them are examples of the artistic heritage of the city, also named the Sun City. The Easter week, declared of International Tourist Interest, is notable for its blues and whites, and their valuable embroideries in silk and gold, some of them declared a Properties of Cultural Interest. “Lorca Taller del Tiempo”, an interpretation centre located in a restored building that used to housed the “Merced Convent”, shows the visitor the abundant proofs of the border Lorca from the Muslim and Christian eras, very relevant fact that makes of Lorca one of the main historic centres of the east part of Spain. The castle, that stands out, has been turned into a thematic space, named “The Strength of the Sun”. Lorca is, doubtlessly, an essential place you must visit to get to know our Region.
